Yahoo Expands Mobile Developer Suite

At an event on Wednesday, Yahoo announced that it is expanding its Mobile Developer suite with several new tools. One of those tools can post content created in apps to users’ Tumblr account (Tumblr is owned by Yahoo), and another makes it easier for mobile development firms to embed ads in their apps.

Simon Khalaf, senior vice president of Publishing Products at Yahoo, also advised developers to focus on native apps rather than the mobile Web. “Effectively, the browser has been sidelined on mobile,” he said, noting that mobile users spend 90 percent of their time in apps and only 10 percent of their time in browser. He added that Americans now spend an average of 3 hours and 40 minutes every day using their mobile devices, which represents a 35 percent increase year-over-year.
