Microsoft’s Windows Store now has more than 2,000 apps available for download. That’s good news considering that the app store had around 1,000 apps available on September 11 when it officially opened for third-party developer submissions. Currently, approximately 83 percent of those Windows downloads are available for free.

Despite the rapid growth, Microsoft has a long way to go to catch Apple; the Windows Store has about 0.3 percent as many apps as the App Store.
