After months of build-up and anticipation, Microsoft officially released Windows 8 on Thursday. One thousand pieces of hardware certified to run the new operating system are going on sale, but the company was more tight-lipped about the number of third-party apps available for the OS.
Windows chief Steven Sinofsky said “a wide range of apps” are available for Windows 8. “We know some might start to count apps – but we see today as a grand opening and developers are adding hundreds of new apps every day,” he said. “Today we have more apps than any competing app store had at its opening.”
