Judging by the press coverage and the rapid development of cloud computing technology, it appears to be the next great emerging technological breakthrough. And if you look at what the clouds are being built with, it appears open source could dominate the marketplace.
InformationWeek’s Michael Biddick has today’s cloud computing story.
“Cloud computing has the potential to transform how government agencies tap into IT services,” writes Biddick, “and open source is an underlying technology in several of the early government clouds that have been developed.”
According to Biddick, the challenge for the cloud is going to be how to get different technologies to work together to provide the same robust and secure infrastructure of existing IT environments.
For Biddick, the answer could be found in open source’s “openness.”
