IFI Claims has published its annual list of the companies that obtained the most US patents. For 2017, IBM took the top spot, just as it did in 2016. Here are the top 10 with the number of patents they received:

- LG Electronics 2701
- Qualcomm 2628
- Google 2457
- Microsoft Technology Licensing 2441
- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing 2425
- Samsung Display 2273
Other tech firms in the top 20 included Apple (11), Sony (12), Amazon (13) and Huawei (20). The leading patent categories were electrical digital data processing; transmission of digital information, such as telegraphic communication; semiconductors; wireless communications and pictorial communications.
