Are the cloud computing services offered by the biggest vendors essentially the same or are there significant differences among them? To find out, Peter Wayner from InfoWorld ran a series of Java benchmarks on roughly comparable instances available through Amazon EC2, Google Compute Engine and Microsoft Windows Azure. Here’s what he found:
- The Google cloud was the fastest and the least expensive.
- Microsoft Azure was the second fastest and the second least expensive.
- In general, Amazon was the slowest and the most expensive, although its large instances were more competitive.
