On Monday, Apple kicked off its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) with a host of announcements. For the mobile development industry, the biggest news was the introduction of the iOS 6 mobile operating system. Currently in beta, the new OS includes a host of new capabilities, including the following:
- Tighter integration with Facebook
- Siri can launch apps and work with third-party services
- Improved navigation from a new 3D map app
- FaceTime calls over cell networks
- Phone numbers integrated with Apple ID
- Improved phone and email controls
- Passbook for tickets and passes
- New features for the Safari browser
