Google has released a second developer preview for its forthcoming Android update, currently known as Android N. For the mobile development industry, the biggest change is likely the inclusion of Vulkan, a cross-platform API for high-performance 3D graphics. It reportedly offers a significant boost in performance for graphics-heavy apps. The update also modifies several other Android APIs for multi-window support and improved notifications.
Other changes in Developer Preview 2 include launcher shortcuts and new emojis that are said to be “more human-looking.”
Google is expected to release the final version of Android N sometime in the third quarter of 2016.
