Ian Murdock, one of the co-founders of Debian Linux, was found dead Dec. 28. The 42-year-old had been arrested at 2:40 a.m. on Dec. 27 after allegedly attempting to break into a house on the street where he lived. On Dec. 28, he posted a series of unusual and disturbing tweets, including one in which he said he was going to commit suicide.
Murdock had recently joined the technical staff at Docker. Before that, he had worked at Salesforce, Sun Microsystems and the Linux Foundation. He was a well-known member of the open source community for many years, having created the Debian distribution of Linux with his former wife Deb in the 1990s.
