A new startup called WakaTime wants to help track exactly how many minutes developers spend coding. The service, which is a finalist in the TechCrunch Disrupt SF Battlefield, could be especially useful to independent contractors. It can track work in more than 40 text editors and IDEs.
In addition to monitoring the number of minutes worked, the tool can also track things like which files developers are working on, which lines of code are requiring a lot of attention and which languages developers are using.
WakaTime is free for those storing only a week’s worth of data; storing a longer history costs $9 per month. It currently has more than 43,000 users.
