VMware has announced the release of vFabric 5, a new suite of Spring-based middleware for Java developers. The offering will allow the company to compete with Microsoft’s similar set of tools for the Azure cloud. vFabric includes seven distinct components:

  • vFabric tc Server with Elastic Memory for Java, an enterprise version of the Apache Tomcat server
  • vFabric GemFire, a server memory-caching system
  • vFabric SQLFire, which uses an SQL interface for retrieving data from RAM
  • RabbitMQ, an open source message queuing system
  • Spring Insight, an open source project used to optimize Java code
  • vFabric Hyperic, which reports on virtual machine activity
  • vFabric Web Server, a version of the Apache Web Server
