Visualizing Two Decades of Open Source Code

Backend as a service provider Kinvey has put together a new infographic that charts the use of the sixteen most popular programming languages in open source projects. Going back to 1993, it draws on data from Ohloh.net and BlackDuck software to document the declining popularity of C and Emacs Lisp, as well as the gradual rise of Java, C++ and others.

Other charts show the total number of languages open source projects used every year, the average lines of code per commit and the ways various languages have influenced each other.
