UI and UX Are Becoming More Important

The growing importance of mobile apps has had an interesting impact on development jobs. Shane Bernstein with recruiting firm QConnects reports a significant increase in the demand for user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) experts. In fact, UX postings grew 25 percent between 2010 and 2011, and they climbed a whopping 70 percent between 2011 and 2012.

Robert Half Technologies says that salaries for UI and UX are climbing as well. Pay for UX designers jumped up 6.2 percent in 2012 and 4.8 percent increase in 2013. Starting pay averages between $70,000 and $110,000.

Some say Apple is responsible for the recent emphasis on UI and UX. “Now people expect everything they interface with to have the ease of use of the iPhone,” says Matt Miller from CyberCoders.
