Twitter Bot Records GitHub Developer Swears

Microsoft Azure software engineer Will Pearson has built a funny chatbot called @gitlost that is getting some attention. The bot scours GitHub for swear words and then posts them on Twitter. To prevent developers from adding cuss words to their GitHub comments on purpose for publicity, the bot doesn’t link back to affected repositories.

Since 2013, the bot has posted more than 40,000 GitHub comments that include profanity. On a typical day, it tweets about ten times. The bot is starting to attract more followers who find the posts provide amusing commentary on the day-to-day lives of developers.
