App Annie has released a mobile development industry report that includes a list of 2014’s most popular apps and games, and the news is really good for Facebook. The social network owned the four non-game apps with the most downloads worldwide: Facebook Messenger, Facebook, WhatsApp Messenger and Instagram. Microsoft’s Skype was number five.
On the game side, the five most popular worldwide were Candy Crush Saga, Subway Surfers, My Talking Tom, Farm Heroes Saga and Clash of Clans.
In the U.S., the picture was just slightly different. The most downloaded games were Candy Crush Saga, Clash of Clans, Flappy Bird, Don’t Tap the White Tile and Subway Surfers. On the app side, the top five included Facebook Messenger, Facebook, Instagram, Pandora Radio and Snapchat.
