“Get thee a cloud strategy” advises Index Ventures General Partner Bernard Dallé offers entrepreneurs planning to make money with open source software.
Dallé told CNet News’ Matt Asay that cloud computing “isn’t simply a clever way to provide social-networking services.” Dallé said that cloud computing may be the best way to monetize enterprise open source software.
Index Ventures has a history of investing in successful open source software such as: MySQL, Skype and others. Now, Dallé said that 70 percent of investment opportunities are in cloud-related projects.
“I think it’s good news,” Dallé said. “I don’t think open source is going away. It’s here to stay. The world is increasingly moving to a hybrid world: a combination of on-premises and cloud computing.”
