The week’s biggest mobile development news is happening at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in San Jose. The most important announcements from the first day of the event included the following:

  • The unveiling of iOS 12 with faster performance, even for older phones
  • ARKit 2.0, an update to Apple’s augmented reality platform
  • Memoji, customizable animated emojis
  • watchOS 5 with automatic workout detection and a walkie-talkie feature
  • Screen time controls
  • macOS Mojave with a “dark mode”
  • Mac App Store redesign
  • 20 million registered developers, $100 billion in revenue and 500 million visitors per week for the iOS App Store
