Synopsys Buys Black Duck for $565 Million

Semiconductor design software vendor Synopsys has announced that it is acquiring Black Duck Software for $565 million in an all-cash deal that will net out to $548 million once Synopsys acquires the cash Black Duck currently has on hand. Black Duck makes software that allows enterprises to secure and manage the open source code they use.

Black Duck has been in business for fifteen years and is headquartered in Burlington, Mass. According to Crunchbase, it had raised approximately $75.5 million in funding.

Synopsys has a $13 billion market cap. Earlier this year, it acquired some assets from another software vendor called Forcheck. It also acquired two companies in 2016 and two others in 2014.
