Packt Publishing Ltd. has completed its annual Skill Up survey, and this year, Python ranked as the most popular development tool. While most surveys evaluate the popularity of either programming languages or integrated development environments (IDEs), frameworks, code repositories and other development tools, this survey lumps them all together. The company says the goal is to obtain “a snapshot of the modern tech community, to discover the tools and techniques developers are using to succeed.”
The top fifteen on the skills list were as follows:
- Python
- Git
- Visual Studio
- Eclipse
- Java
- Notepad++
- Linux
- R
- Docker
- Excel
- JavaScript
- Vim
- Android Studio
- Visual Studio Code
- Jira
