Survey: 76% of Enterprises Have Apps Developed Outside IT

Vendor Kintone has released a report titled “The Rise of the Citizen Developer: 2017 Low-Code Adoption Survey,” based on a survey of 324 IT professionals. Among those surveyed, 76 percent said that at least some of their organizations’ apps were being created by people working outside IT. In addition, 34 percent said these citizen developers were faster than regular development teams. Perhaps that is part of the reason why 84 percent said they want to see their employers do more to encourage citizen developers.

“Empowered citizen developers can go to work on organizations’ long backlog of custom application needs while constantly upgrading systems and solutions to keep organizations advancing at the speed of business, building for scale, and innovating rapidly,” said Dave Landa, CEO of Kintone. “They can help IT departments resolve long custom application request backlogs and keep a business’s systems and processes up to date and being managed at optimal efficiency.”
