At last week’s PyCon event, developer and tech evangelist Adria Richards tweeted a photo of two guys sitting behind her at the event along with the message, “Not cool. Jokes about forking repo’s in a sexual way and ‘big’ dongles. Right behind me #pycon.”
The conference organizers spoke to the men involved, and they apologized. But later, one of the men was fired from his job. Adria Richards was also fired from her job after her tweet gained attention.
Developers and bloggers have since commented at length on the scandal—some supporting Richards, some supporting the jokers and some supporting neither. Many say it is shedding light on sexist attitudes that persist in the development industry.
