Samsung executive Lee Young-hee has confirmed to The Korea Times that the company plans to debut a smartwatch on Sept. 4 in Berlin, Germany. Called the “Galaxy Gear,” the new device will not have a flexible display. “The new device will enhance and enrich the current smart mobile experience in many ways,” said Lee. “It will lead a new trend in smart mobile communications. We are confident that the Gear will add meaningful momentum to the mobile industry.”
Lee hinted that the company may release other wearable computing devices. She confirmed that they would also unveil the Galaxy Note3 at the same event, and she said that the company is not interested in purchasing BlackBerry.
Apple is also rumored to be working on a smartwatch.
