Samsung, which sells more Android-based smartphones than anyone else, has just released a second phone based on Tizen, an alternative mobile operating system that Samsung developed itself. The Samsung Z3 will be sold only in in India, and it will cost 8,490 Indian rupees (about $130). It’s the follow-up to the Samsung Z1, another Tizen-based phone that went on sale in India in January and sold more than a million units.
The company has struggled to convince the mobile development industry to build apps for Tizen, but that doesn’t appear to be stopping it from releasing Tizen-based products.
