Samsung has announced that it will buy Viv, a startup focused on using artificial intelligence (AI) to build a personal assistant. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the companies did say that the Viv employees will be joining the staff at Samsung.

Viv was founded by Dag Kittlaus, one of the people who created Apple’s personal assistant Siri. Samsung mobile unit CTO Injong Rhee said that Viv technology could start showing up in Galaxy smartphones, as well as other Samsung devices, next year.

Interestingly, the news comes on the heels of Google announcing its own AI-based personal assistant, Google Assistant.
