Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has ruled that Google is abusing its market dominance by requiring smartphone manufacturers to pre-install Google apps on Android devices. The agency is sending a complete copy of the ruling to Google and requesting that it “terminate abuse of dominant position.”
The antimonopoly case was launched by a Russian firm called Yandex. Unsurprisingly, the firm hailed the ruling, saying, “We believe the FAS decision will serve to restore competition in the market.”
When asked to comment, a Google spokesperson told the BBC, “We haven’t yet received the ruling. When we do, we will study it and determine our next steps.”
