A team of researchers at the University of Tubingen in Germany have developed a version of the Mario character from the game Super Mario Advance that has artificial intelligence (AI). The character can now respond to voice commands, express his emotions and act independently based on how he feels. For example, if he is hungry, he will collect coins.
The new Mario can also learn about his environment. For instance, he can learn that jumping on a goomba will destroy it if a user tells him so or if he just happens to jump on the goomba on his own and sees what happens.
