A new report from Distimo finds that many mobile development firms are now taking a multiple-platform approach. It found 1.3 million total applications in the six top app stores, but only 980,000 unique apps. In other words, each mobile app is published an average of 1.3 times. The top-performing apps were much more likely to be listed in multiple stores.
Not surprisingly, 75 percent of iPhone apps are also available for the iPad, and 89 percent of iPad apps are available for the iPhone. About a third of App Store apps are also available in Google Play, and 37 percent of Google Play apps are available through Amazon Appstore and Apple’s App Store. BlackBerry App World and the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace had a much lower percentage of cross-platform apps.
