A new report from Ericsson finds that just five apps dominate mobile data traffic in each of the countries studied, although the mix of apps varied by country. In the U.S., the top five included Facebook (16 percent of mobile traffic), YouTube (15 percent), Netflix (12 percent), Instagram (9 percent) and Snapchat (9 percent). In South Korea, the top five were Facebook (20 percent), AfreecaTV (16 percent), YouTube (11 percent), NAVER (11 percent) and the Android browser (9 percent).
In general, video and social media apps dominated the lists, with Facebook being number one in every country studied. The report also predicts that the mobile video traffic over the next six years will be seventeen times greater than the mobile video traffic from the last six years.
