A new report from mobile marketing platform Localytics finds that on average mobile users are spending 21 percent more time with apps this year than they did last year. Some categories saw much higher increases in the amount of usage. For example, users are now spending 79 percent more time with music apps, 51 percent more time with health and fitness apps and 49 percent more time with social networking apps.

The report also revealed that on average, users open an app 11.5 times per month. The average app session lasts 5.7 minutes. However, one category of app sees significantly different app usage: social networking use sessions tend to be very short and frequent—a behavior Localytics refers to a “snacking.”
