Report: Nearly Half of North American Mobile Gamers Spend Money on Games

Market researchers from NewZoo have released a new Mobile Game Trending Report, which found that 64 million people in North America have paid money for mobile games. That’s about 49 percent of all North American mobile gamers. On average, they spend $7.68 per month, for a total of $5.9 billion in revenue for the mobile development industry each year.

Other key points from the report include the following:

  • Worldwide, 1.5 billion people have played a game on a smartphone or tablet.
  • Globally, about one third of all mobile gamers spend money on games.
  • 64 percent of Amazon Appstore users spend money on games, compared to 47 percent of iPhone owners, 57 percent of iPad users and 37 percent of Google Play users.
  • More than a third of the people who spend money on games have children who play mobile games regularly.
