Report: Mozilla Is Making a Voice-Based Browser

CNET is reporting that Mozilla, the non-profit best known for the Firefox browser, is working on a new voice-based browser. Called Scout, the project would allow users to make requests aloud, and the browser would read website content to them.

Analysts note that voice control could revolutionize Internet access while also making it more accessible to users with visual impairments. It might also put new demands on Web developers, who would need to make sure that their sites were accessible to both standard visual browsers and the new voice browser.

Mozilla didn’t comment in detail on the story, saying only that Scout is an “early-stage project.”
