App Annie has released a new “Spotlight on Connected Devices” report which found strong growth among health and fitness apps. In fact, downloads of the top five health and fitness apps increased 2.3 times between August 2013 and August 2014. Downloads of all connected device apps increased 50 percent during the same time period.
“These download figures reflect the relative maturity of the connected device sectors,” App Annie said. “Productivity and Health & Fitness are rapidly maturing and have considerable app store penetration. On the other hand, Car, Home and Watch are still nascent with significant room for growth.”
In related news, Forbes is reporting that Microsoft will release a smartwatch with health sensors “within the next few weeks.” The device is rumored to have a battery that will last two days without charging.
