A new report from Flurry shows strong growth in the number of mobile users who open apps more than 60 times a day—a group Flurry calls “mobile addicts.” The company says there are now 176 million mobile addicts worldwide, a 123 percent increase since last year. By comparison, the number of “superusers” who open apps 16 to 60 times climbed 55 percent, and the number of “regular users” who check apps up to 16 times increased 23 percent.

The report also highlights some demographic trends that mobile development firms should note. Interestingly, more women than men tend to be mobile addicts. And mobile addicts tend to fall in the 18-25 or 35-54 age brackets, but not the 25-34 age bracket. The report says it’s likely that many of the people in the 35-54 age group are parents sharing devices with children, which accounts for some of the heavy app use.
