The latest report from App Annie shows that the two largest mobile app stores made huge revenue gains in the third quarter. In fact, Google Play revenue doubled between the third quarter and the fourth quarter. Revenue for Apple’s App Store climbed by only 35 percent over the same period, but the App Store still brought in about three and a half times as much money as Google Play.
The U.S. remains the most lucrative market for the App Store, but China is growing quickly. By contrast, Japan is the top market for Google Play followed by the U.S. and South Korea. Nearly half of all Google Play revenue in the fourth quarter came from Japan and South Korea alone.
