Based on information from unnamed sources, TechCrunch is reporting that Facebook will announce plans to turn its Messenger app into an app platform at its F8 developer conference next week. The sources say the company plans to allow third parties to offer apps through Messenger, but it’s unclear how open the platform will be.
Facebook has previously said that it would make some announcements related to Messenger at F8. Messenger currently has more than 500 million users worldwide.
