The 2018 State of DevOps report from DORA, Google Cloud and several other corporate sponsors teases out the ways that elite and high-performing DevOps groups are different from medium- or low-performing groups. The findings including the following:
- Compared to low performers, elite performers deploy code 46 times more frequently and have a 2,555 times shorter lead time from commit to deploy, a 7 times lower change failure rate and a 2,604 times faster incident recovery time.
- Teams that leverage all of cloud computing’s benefits are 23 times more likely to be elite performers.
- Teams adopting platform as a service (PaaS) were 1.5 times more likely to be elite performers.
- Practices like monitoring and observability, continuous testing, database change management and integrating security earlier in the software development process also drive high performance.
