Report: Elite DevOps Teams Deploy Code 46x More Frequently than Low Performers

The 2018 State of DevOps report from DORA, Google Cloud and several other corporate sponsors teases out the ways that elite and high-performing DevOps groups are different from medium- or low-performing groups. The findings including the following:

  • Compared to low performers, elite performers deploy code 46 times more frequently and have a 2,555 times shorter lead time from commit to deploy, a 7 times lower change failure rate and a 2,604 times faster incident recovery time.
  • Teams that leverage all of cloud computing’s benefits are 23 times more likely to be elite performers.
  • Teams adopting platform as a service (PaaS) were 1.5 times more likely to be elite performers.
  • Practices like monitoring and observability, continuous testing, database change management and integrating security earlier in the software development process also drive high performance.
