Unnamed sources told Reuters that BlackBerry is considering making a smartphone based on Google’s Android operating system. They said that the move would be part of BlackBerry’s strategy to focus on software and device management. The device would have a slider with a physical keyboard as well as a touch screen.
In response to the report, BlackBerry officials said, “We don’t comment on rumors and speculation, but we remain committed to the BlackBerry 10 operating system, which provides security and productivity benefits that are unmatched.”
BlackBerry once dominated the mobile industry, but it now has less than 1 percent market share.
