Good news for the mobile development industry: iOS app spending is on a steady upward trajectory. A new report from Sensor Tower forecasts that by 2020, the average iPhone user will spend $88 per year on apps and in-app purchases. By comparison, spending was $47 per user in 2016 and just $12 per user in 2012. Average spending will likely be around $63 per person this year.
Of that spending amount, about 70 percent comes from games. Subscription entertainment services are also leading to higher revenues.
