Kantar WorldPanel has released a new report of interest to the mobile development industry. It details how long most Americans keep their smartphones before upgrading.
On average, U.S. smartphone users upgrade after 22 months with a device, but there are significant differences among the various brands. BlackBerry owners kept their devices the longest—32 months. At the other end of the spectrum, most people replace Microsoft Lumias after just 16 months. The replacement cycle for Apple iPhones is 25 months, and the cycle for Samsung devices is 18 months.
In China, users replace their devices every 20 months on average.
