TechCrunch is reporting some irregularities with the rankings in the App Store Top Charts. The charts are different when viewed from different devices, and Apple’s own apps appear to be ranked higher than they should be.
App store optimization firm Sensor Tower first discovered the issue when its internal data didn’t match up with the top charts on the App Store. Several of Apple’s iOS apps appeared in the top 10, even though Sensor Tower’s data says they shouldn’t be there. The firm also noted that an older iPhone running iOS 8.3 didn’t have the same issue.
Apple has not yet commented on the controversy.
