Report: Apple Accounted for 49% of Devices Sold at Christmas

Flurry has released several new reports that shed light on how the holiday season impacted the mobile development industry. Apple seems to have won the gift-giving race as it accounted for 49.1 percent of mobile device activations during Christmas week. Samsung was in second place with 19.8 percent of devices, and Nokia was a distant third with 2 percent.

Phablets were much more popular than in years past, accounting for 27 percent of new devices activated Christmas week. By comparison, 13 percent of devices from Christmas 2014 were phablets. Medium-sized smartphones remain the most popular mobile form factor, accounting for 54 percent of sales.

And unsurprisingly, Dec. 25 saw a huge spike in app downloads with 2.2 times as many downloads as on a typical day in December.
