A new report from mobile analytics firm Flurry (which is owned by Yahoo) finds that mobile app use sessions climbed 76 percent in 2014, and several categories experienced even higher increases. Mobile development firms with apps in the “lifestyle & shopping” category saw their usage rise 174% year-over-year, while “utilities & productivity” climbed 121 percent. Messaging social (103 percent), health & fitness (89 percent) and travel (89 percent) all saw greater than average increases, but games usage growth slowed to just 30 percent.
“If 2013 was the year messaging apps took off, 2014 was the year retail came to mobile in a big way,” said Flurry. The report added that mobile shopping spikes at 9 a.m., noon and 8 p.m.
