According to a new report from Sensor Tower, Apple’s App Store generated nearly twice as much revenue as Google Play in the third quarter. App Store sales totaled $12 billion, a 23.3 percent year-over-year increase. That was enough to account for 66 percent of the mobile app market. By contrast, Google Play generated $6.2 billion, which was a 21.5 percent year-over-year increase, but was 93 percent less than the iOS take. However, Google Play had more downloads than its rival.
In terms of revenue, the top non-game apps for the quarter were Netflix, Tinder, Tencent Video, iQIYI and Pandora. The top five non-game apps by downloads included WhatsApp, Messenger, Facebook, TikTok and Instagram.
