A new report from Sensor Tower highlights a continuing trend in the mobile development industry: Android users download more apps than iOS users do, but Android users spend less. According to the market research firm, the average U.S. Android user downloaded 42 apps from Google Play, compared to 33 apps downloaded from the App Store by iOS users. However, the Android users spent 33 percent less money than iOS users.
On the other hand, Android users are big spenders when it comes to mobile gaming. The game category accounted for 90 percent of all spending in Google Play, and last year Android users spent as much as iPhone users did on games — about $27.
