According to a new report from Distimo, 79% percent of iOS app revenue in January came from in-app purchases. That’s down a bit from the all-time high reached last November, when in-app purchases accounted for 81 percent of revenue.

In certain countries, the percentage of revenue from the freemium model was even higher. Japan and China topped the list with 94 percent of revenue from in-app purchases in free apps, followed by South Korea with 89 percent and the U.S. with 79 percent. On the other end of the spectrum, in Germany only 70 percent of revenue came from freemium purchases.

Interestingly, the iPhone still generates the vast majority of app revenue—91 percent—with the iPad accounting for just 9 percent of sales.
