A forthcoming Deloitte report called the “2014 Mobile Consumer Survey” has some disturbing news for the mobile development industry. First, it finds that smartphone owners may be losing their appetite for new apps as 31 percent have not downloaded a new app in the last month. Second, very few users are paying for apps. In fact, 90 percent of smartphone owners have never purchased a paid app.
Deloitte suggests two reasons for these trends: 1) More older people are getting smartphones, and they aren’t as interested in apps. 2) People think their current apps are “good enough” and don’t see the need for new ones.
