A lot of mobile development industry research emphasizes the fact that most developers don’t make very much money, but a new report from Pollen VC and Priori Data is calling attention to the few who strike it rich. It claims that 1887 mobile developers will bring in more than $1 million this year from their apps. Of those, 1,260 have iOS apps and 759 have Android apps. Other noteworthy takeaways from the report include the following:
- 78 percent of millionaire mobile apps are games.
- Apps outside the top 100 account for 45 percent of app store revenues.
- “Long tail” developers, those whose apps aren’t at the top of the charts, have brought in $2.3 billion in the last twelve months.
