Remembering Trumpet Winsock

Back in the mid ’90s, before Windows 95 and when Linux wasn’t much more than a cool idea, to connect to the Internet using Windows 3.1, you needed an application called Trumpet Winsock.

The man that made that application was Peter Tattam. While his software was widely distributed by ISPs and magazines, he didn’t make much money from it.

Hacker News Jacques Chester tracked down Tattam and is leading a fundraiser for the software engineer here.

So if you remember that annoying process of connecting to the Internet using Windows 3.1 and a modem, it was Tattam that made it a lot less annoying. You can still download Trumpet Winsock from the official Web site.
