The analysts at RedMonk have published their twice-yearly list of the most popular programming languages, and they say that JavaScript is currently number one, beating out Java, which was previously at the top. Other languages on the rise include C#, C++, Matlab, Clojure and Visual Basic. Interestingly, Python and Ruby both showed declines.
