Red Hat has made three product announcements related to its Ansible DevOps automation platform. First, it has released version 3.2 of Ansible Tower. Second, it has a new open source version of Ansible Tower called AWX. And third, it is also launching Ansible Engine, a supported version of the AWX project.

“Ansible Tower was proprietary licensed up until now,” explained Justin Nemmers, general manager for Ansible at Red Hat. “AWX is to Ansible Tower as Fedora is to Red Hat Enterprise Linux, as Wildfly is to JBoss EAP and as OpenShift Origin is to Red Hat OpenShift.”

Red Hat acquired Ansible in October 2015 and promised then to make the Ansible Tower software available under an open source license.
